For many years, farming operations faced a difficult choice when determining how to structure their business. General partnerships often provided a financial advantage because they received favorable treatment under United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) payment limitation rules. Corporations and other business entities, however, offered valuable liability protection and management benefits but were often disadvantaged by those same USDA payment limitations. Monday, June 29, 2020, is the last day for farmers to apply for funds under the Wisconsin Farm Support Program. The minimum amount is $1,000 and the maximum amount is $3,500. Payments are to be sent July 15, after all applications are received and reviewed.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has announced the availability of the Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin (BLBW) grant program for 2020. DATCP encourages Wisconsin farmers and businesses seeking to grow their local markets to apply by noon, February 28, 2020.
