Remembering Jim Ruhly

Our esteemed and beloved colleague Jim Ruhly passed away surrounded by family on July 2, 2024. Jim practiced law in Madison for nearly 50 years before he joined Boardman Clark in 2015. He was known at the firm for his kindness and wise counsel before his retirement in 2020. Outside the office, he was a devoted family man, active in his church, a traveler, a reader, and an avid Wisconsin sports fan.

Throughout his 52-year legal career, Jim was always willing to lend a helping hand and give back to the community. He sat on the board of and frequently chaired many organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Badger Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Overture Development Corporation, the Madison Cultural Arts District, the Children’s Theatre of Madison, and the Madison Opera. His longest-running commitment was to that of Madison Downtown Rotary, where he was a member for over 50 years. He served on many of its committees and was especially proud of his work as the Program Committee Chair for over ten years, as well as serving as President from 1999-2000.

Jim will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences go to his family, including his wife, Carol, his two sons, and three grandchildren.
