Legal Assistant – Emphasis Litigation

Pay: $28.00 — $32.00 per hour

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours / week.

Job Overview

Boardman Clark seeks an experienced Legal Assistant to work in our Litigation Practice Group. The Legal Assistant will be responsible for carrying out administrative services and providing support to firm litigators. The Litigation Legal Assistant will have a definite attention to detail, a strong work ethic, exceptional problem-solving skills and comfort working in a fast-paced and dynamic workplace.


  • Draft, proofread, format and edit pleadings, discovery responses, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • File pleadings in state and federal courts 
  • Open new matters and initiate conflict checks
  • Organize and maintain filings (including electronic filing) and files.
  • Assist timekeepers with tracking deadlines and organizing projects. Enter timekeepers’ time entries.
  • Type from rough draft, handwritten materials and/​or dictation into proper format.
  • Schedule and calendar appointments and meetings; make travel arrangements and complete expense reports.
  • Serve as back-up to other assistants.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned, including sharing in additional administrative duties.


  • 5+ years’ experience as a litigation assistant
  • Strong skills in word processing and computer use; proficiency in MS Office Products (Word, Outlook, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat. 
  • Extensive experience filing documents with state and federal courts. Ability to read and understand court rules, ensure compliance with court rules and assigned judge’s individual rules and practices.
  • High attention to detail and sensitivity to confidential materials
  • Ability to work independently and anticipate needed tasks to complete projects
  • Able and willing to learn new electronic programs
  • Excellent grammar, proofreading and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • High school diploma required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit and/​or stand at a desk and work at a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
